Hi, I’m Anisha!
Are you looking for an interactive and exciting group activity for your next corporate outing or birthday party? Look no further. Bollywood is where it’s at.
I’m a teacher for hire of Bollywood dance classes in the Washington, D.C. metro area. My classes are designed for both kids and adults.
Teaching dance is one of my biggest passions, which is why I have been doing it for over 8 years.
My dance portfolio includes:
- Choreographing collegiate level Gujarati Folk dance—Garba—for state competition.
- Organizing Bollywood wedding performances.
- Performing at children’s birthday parties and school events.
- Leading Bollywood flash mobs for corporate team building events.
- Teaching a weekly dance class at BloomBars in D.C. for kids. Click here for more information.
Why I’m An Awesome Teacher
When I was only 4 years old, I started jazz, tap, and ballet lessons, but the one I stuck with was Indian folk dance. I started competitive dancing 2 years later and gained specialized training in Bollywood, Garba/Raas, and Fusion dancing.
Also, I spent a year teaching second grade in the D.C. school system, which taught me how to effectively interact with kids. I love teaching adults, but my heart lies working with children.
Why I Teach Bollywood
All people put themselves into two categories: dancers and non-dancers. But I don’t believe that’s true. And Bollywood helps break through that classification.
One of my favorite moments from teaching in the second grade classroom was when I changed our movement breaks to Bollywood dance breaks. I showed the kids how to “screw in a lightbulb” and “hit the drum.” A few of the kids who had previously always stayed in the back of the room felt empowered and joined me in the front of the class.
That was when I realized Bollywood can build a person’s confidence in him or herself.
Plus, it’s important to me to demystify Bollywood and make a piece of my culture accessible to all.
